The Application process for the course begins on 1st December of the year preceding the course. (We do not keep a waiting list.) You apply by completing the application form, found here.
If you are applying as a volunteer you will need to provide a reference before your application can be considered, so do approach a suitable person, preferably someone who can complete the referee’s form and return it on-line (although there are other ways if this is not possible). Ask your referee to complete and return the reference form, found here, as soon as you have submitted your application form. If you are a Plantlife volunteer (including NPMS) you should not ask for a reference however – we will do that for you.
Course fees are collected by the Field Studies Council (FSC) who use their secure system to handle all financial aspects of the course. The FSC will contact you by email telling you if you have been offered a place and how to pay. Please be patient because Christmas and New Year cause an inevitable administrative delay so you will not hear until January. Provided that you received an automated confirmation that your application form had been received you are most likely to be offered a place because we close the application form when the course is full. We do not select applicants in any way other than by geographical distribution because it sometimes happens that there are more applicants in one part of the country than our tutors can cope with.
When your payment has been received and cleared by the FSC you will receive an email from our webmaster welcoming you to the course and telling you your username and password. The course (containing all the course material and instructions) will open on 1st February and Unit 1 will be released on the second Friday in February. Units will be released thereafter on alternate Fridays until August.
